CARLTON STREETS - THE BRIAN BROWN QUINTET
'Carlton Streets' is a fine example of the Jazz coming out of Melbourne in the early 70's. All the players here worked together regularly in various inclinations. Led by Saxophonist Brian Brown, the group consisted of well known Melbourne Jazz Cats, Bob Sedergreen (keys) and Ted Vining (drums). The quartet also featured talents of David Tolley with his crazy bass and Dure Dara on Percussion. Recorded live, this session is a somewhat conceptual piece exploring themes of Melbourne City and important indigenous issues. The album's overall loose structure is tightly pinned down with some hard and heavy groove playing. The recording also features several additional players know as the Jazzbird Orchestra. Look carefully for the inconspicuous appearance by Vibes Master, Alan Lee.
