MARCH 2009
Some very exciting news here this week with the announcement of our next release; the LP reissue of Sven Libaek's 1974 library recording Solar Flares. This amazing album is surely one of the greatest of the genre. Expect that great Libaek jazzy/exotica sound but this time with an Outer Space theme! We are taking pre-orders now but the release date is scheduled for the June 1st. (Most likely sooner) Only 500 copies have been pressed, so get in quick if want to secure one. We are working with Sven on reissuing all of his great soundtracks so stay tuned for more news.
For those inclined there is now a new selection of secondhand Australian records for sale. Some old favourites plus some really nice rare pieces. Contact me if interested. I'm open for trades as well.
On another note, I have been involved in the Australian branch of 'Weird Gear', the DJ night dedicated to all things rare and weird. Our first night was a couple of months back and it went down great so we've scheduled another gig for Easter Thursday (9th). So, if your in Melbourne please come on down to hear Callum Flack from Square Deal, Jeff Wybrow from Round & Round, Dave Reitman from Licorice Pie and myself play some obscurities. Let me know if you want on the Weird Gear mailing list for more info.
Cheers

FEBRUARY 2009
In case you were wondering what the hells going on.... we’re still here! We've had at six-month hiatus but we are back in 2009 and have some new exciting reissues scheduled for release very soon. The new announcements to be made within the coming weeks....
Just to keep everyone informed, we're sad to say that some of our planned releases have been cancelled. Firstly, we regret to announce that the amazing Eastern Horizons will not see a Vinyl release. It would have been great to get this important recording back on vinyl but unfortunately we feel that the quality of the original recording is just not good enough to reproduce an LP version. We know that there was a lot of people hanging out for this one, so we do apologise.
Also, it has been brought to our attention that a CD version of Brian Browns 'Carlton Streets' is already available. To produce another issue is pointless from our prospective. Again we apologise for the cancellation.
Thanks for all the enquires from people wondering what’s happening with the label. We'll be back on track in 2009, so stay tuned….
All the best

VOTARY EXCLUSIVE !!! Inner Space Film Footage
Votary has acquired footage from the groundbreaking documentary Inner Space. This is a rare peek at the film that inspired Sven's aquatic masterpiece. Svens music effectively submerges the listener but when expereinced in context it is even more vibrant. To view clip go to our 'Catalogue' page 'Inner Space' and click on the camera icon. More clips will follow. Thanks to the kindness and co-operation of Ron & Val Taylor.
JANUARY 2008
NEW SITE AND NEW RELEASES!!!!!
Happy New Year and welcome to Votary Records 2008. With the New Year brings change here. For those of you who have been here before, you will notice a drastic overhaul of the site. With this new environment we are ready to present our schedule for the first half of 2008!
As well as continuing our endeavour to re-release classic Australian Jazz Albums on CD and Vinyl, we also would like to announce our new series of limited edition 7inch vinyl releases.
To christen our new site, two great little 45’s are now on offer. First up is a little Inner Space! With an unfortunate delay on the full Inner Space LP we would like to compensate with a single from the legendary Australian soundtrack. Deliberately different from the original single, we chose to highlight two of our favourite tracks, Dark World and Danger Reef. Fear not Libaek Fans, the full LP is imminent!!
To accompany this we are also excited to offer another classic Aussie 45. The Col Nolan Soul Syndicate, ‘Buckingham Palace’ and ‘What’s the Use’. These two hugely popular tracks are sure to be winners this summer. Please note both singles are limited, so get in quick!!
Together with the legendary Australian Jazz producer Horst Liepolt we are proud to present classic Australian Jazz reissues from the famed '44' label. Arguably, there was no one more influential to the development of Australian Jazz in the 1970's than Horst Liepolt. We have selected three important Australian albums to showcase his production and vision of this prolific label.
1976 saw Liepolt re-release several seminal Australian Jazz works from the 60's. Among these was the highly important album Eastern Horizons by the Charlie Munro Quartet, originally recorded in 1967. Once again this incredible session will see another reissue.
The Second recording we will focus on is the 1974 session by the Jazz CO/OP. This is a brilliant example of the productive free Jazz environment of 1970’s Sydney. To round off the Showcase we represent Melbourne with the 1975 concept Album ‘Carlton Streets’ by the Brian Brown Quintet. This All-star session featured the city's busiest and most talented players. All three recordings feature many of the top Jazz musicians working in Australia at the time and we feel they best represent the nature of the ‘44’ label. Scheduled release dates are to be announced throughout the year.
Finally, more exciting news for Libaek fans! Coming soon will be a 45 of the Holy Grail library album ‘My Thing'. It will feature the brilliant ‘Misty Canyon’ and will be sided by the groovy ‘Soul Thing’. Once again limited copies have been pressed!
So, please take a look around the site. All of the currently available titles can be purchased through Pay Pal. If you desperately need to pay an alternative way drop us a line and we should be able to sort something out.
Soon, several new features will be up and running on the site. A page offering second hand LP’s from my personal collection plus some other interesting record related bits! By all means be sure to contact us with any queries, comments, whatever!
Best regards and welcome to Votary Records 2008
James and Stevie.
P.S - Thank you to everyone who purchased Inner Space last year. It was quite successful with some fantastic interest and reviews from all around the world. If you are still after a copy there is very limited stock available. And yes dammit, the LP is coming soon!!!!!!!!!!!!
